Biotope One A Study of Flora and Fauna 
This plant was first registered as a new species in 1830. Before its nineteenth-century discovery, it’s had a long history of use for its medicinal properties in Ayurveda throughout India. Ayurveda, or Ayurvedic medicine, is a holistic medicinal practice dating back 3000 years.
This water plant has many synonyms with some being Ambrosinia spiralis (Retzius Anders Jahan 1832), Arum spirale (Retzius Anders Jahan 1779), and Cryptocoryne tortuosa (Blatter Ethelbert and McCann Yale Mervin Charles 1931). It was confusing in the past, but now it is uniformly identified as “Cryptocoryne spiralis var. spiralis”.
It is used for Ayurvedic medicine as well as table fare in India. It contains an anti-itching nature from the leaves. Rhizome extracts are used for cough, fever, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting in infants, and abdominal complaints. It has been discovered that it can also lower blood pressure as well. It has a wide variety of uses and is easy to get.
Cryptocoryne spiralis var. spiralis grows seemingly everywhere in Southwest India. This water plant can be found growing along streams, springs, grassy plains, paddy fields, and swamps. it can grow submerged or more commonly emerged above the waterline.
I have been having good results evaluating this as a natural herb. I’ve had no side effects, but taking too much will put a burden on the liver (hepatic).
The chromosome number is 2n = 33, 2n = 66, 2n = 88, 2n = 110 and more.
